From the bay to the endless Mediterranean

The four-star hotel Catalonia Royal Ses Savines is located in the quiet fishing village of Santa Eulalia del Río, east of the island of Ibiza, a stone’s throw from the promenade and the marina. Enjoy the excellent location with direct views of the Mediterranean that reach the neighbouring island of Formentera.
The plot on which it sits, shared with the hotel from the same chain Catalonia Ses Estaques, is situated on the seafront and next to a leafy pine forest. The carefully conserved landscape of the site is the main identity of this group of hotels, in which elements of autochthonous construction coexist, such as the characteristic dry-stone walls, along with large outdoor spaces, as well as an infinity pool that accompanies the main facade of the hotel and which can be accessed directly from the suites on the ground floor.

One of the main pillars of this project, developed by the architect Frauke Halberscheidt, has been precisely designed to maximise this amazing location of the hotel in front of the Mediterranean, allowing the exterior to be the absolute protagonist of the interior. It is a newly built hotel, unveiled in 2017, that features five floors of rooms, topped by a roof dedicated to relaxing, with a swimming pool and solarium. Its gradual height increases in successive recesses from floor to floor and the arrangement of large windows lighten the whole building. At the same time the choice of lightly toned materials and finishes are a direct reference to the traditional architecture of the island.
This project, which takes on the shape of a half moon, was carried out on an east-west facing plot, where the main facade faces towards the sea, so that each of its 39 rooms enjoys direct views of the bay, allowing guests to continuously enjoy the landscape even from their beds. This relationship with the environment is intensified by providing all the rooms with a balcony or terrace equipped with glass panel railings that extend the views and intentionally makes guests feel like they are floating on the water in a boat.

The model specially chosen for this has been the GlassFit CC-775 from Comenza, which does not require continuous profiling and is adapted for use in private spaces such as hotel rooms (CTE load of 0.8 kN). Its lateral fastening adapters in stainless steel, knob type, are precisely anchored to the edges of the concrete slabs, to facilitate the visual dematerialisation of the handrail from the inside and emphasise its lightness from the outside. The RDI department of the company has developed this system that has an exclusive Level 2D levelling system, which allows the maximum adjustment of the panels for a perfect finish.
