Design, sustainability and lightness for privileged views

Santa Eulalia del Río is a quiet seaside town on the eastern coast of the island of Ibiza. Just outside of town, on a plot just metres from S’Argamassa beach —and with direct access to the beach— is the hotel ME Ibiza by Meliá. This privileged location is also the site of a Roman Aqueduct, catalogued as a Site of Cultural Interest, and native trees that help frame the views of the Mediterranean, heightening the sense of privacy.
The building complex forms a four-storey T that is oriented to embrace the sea and the landscape, while wrapping and protecting the garden and swimming pool areas.

Recently, the hotel underwent an in-depth refurbishment to improve its competitiveness with respect to other tourism offers in the area, upgrading from 4 to 5 stars.
The award-winning refurbishment project, recognised for its sustainability, was developed by the team from Álvaro Sans Arquitectura Hotelera. In it, the hotel area was expanded to include suites and more spacious rooms, seeking an open space and minimalist, clean lines.
After extending lift service to the fourth floor, to provide access to the rooftop, the space was turned into a terrace that covers the complex and offers different recreational uses, such as a spa, restaurant, and an infinity pool, maximising the 360º panoramic views offered at this point.

The finishes are in light tones, whites and wood, boosting the island’s Mediterranean light and putting the focus on the sea and views that inundate the interior and exterior. Thus, to provide continuity to the views from the rooms and the common areas, glass railings were installed from the Comenza GlassFit line, with a design providing clean lines that maximise the lighting and visual lightness. These systems also guarantee maximum usage safety, complying with all load requirements established by the CTE.

The large rooftop uses the GlassFit SV-1301 model, installed on an anodised aluminium frame and top assembly. In this case, it is installed set back from the façade line, contributing to lightening its presence even further from the lower spaces.
On projections and room balconies, the system is installed laterally, using the GlassFit SV-1302 model, with a profile anchored to the exterior face of the floor, favouring the dematerialisation of the railing and offering a continuous, uninterrupted view of the exterior.
