In a railing project, choosing the right finish is just as important as selecting the system itself. It not only impacts the final aesthetic, but also affects durability, maintenance, and the architectural integration of the entire structure.
At Comenza, we offer glass railing systems available in both PVD finish and powder coating, two distinct options that meet different project needs, requirements, and styles.
PVD finish is applied exclusively to stainless steel components, while powder coating is used for aluminum profiles, allowing for optimal finishes depending on the material and the type of project.
PVD stands out for its resistance, color stability, and anti-corrosion performance, while powder coating offers wide color versatility thanks to the RAL color chart and a uniform finish certified by Qualicoat Seaside.
In this post, we break down what PVD is, how it differs from powder coating, and what solutions Comenza offers in both finishes to help you choose the most suitable option for your project.
What is the PVD finish?
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is a physical vapor deposition process applied exclusively to stainless steel surfaces. During this process, specific metallic compounds are vaporized in a vacuum chamber and react with the surface of the steel, creating an outer layer that is modified at the molecular level.
It’s important to note that PVD is not a traditional coating, as it does not involve applying paint or a surface film. The metallic vapor does not form an added layer but rather interacts directly with the stainless steel, altering its tone and enhancing its surface properties.
Advantages of PVD in railing systems
- Premium aesthetics and uniform color tone. Comenza’s Black Finish PVD offers a deep, highly consistent tone that maintains its appearance over time, even under sun exposure. Its contemporary look makes it an ideal choice for high-end architectural projects.
- Harder surface and greater wear resistance. PVD provides superior hardness, making it highly resistant to scratches, continuous friction, accidental impacts, and frequent contact with users. It is ideal for high-traffic projects.
- Additional corrosion protection. While Comenza systems already stand out for their excellent anti-corrosion performance, PVD adds an extra protective barrier.
- Easy maintenance. The PVD surface is less porous and more stable, making it easier to clean with mild products and helping prevent stains.
Comenza systems available with PVD Black Finish
Comenza currently offers the PVD Black Finish in the following railing systems.
- GlassFit CC-775. Side adapter system for glass railings, known for its innovative design and easy installation, thanks to the LEVEL 2D and SLOT 360 devices, which allow for perfect leveling even with the glass already installed.
- GlassFit CC-782.With a minimalist design and suitable for private use, this system stands out for its easy installation thanks to the LEVEL 3D and SLOT 180 devices, and for allowing both chemical and mechanical anchoring.
- GlassFit CC-791. The GlassFit CC-791 system for private use offers full transparency on balconies and an uninterrupted view. Thanks to the Slot 360 and Level 2D devices, it allows installers to achieve a quick, simple, and precise assembly. It can be installed with either annealed or tempered glass.
- GlassFit CC-800. Clamp system for glass railings, suitable for public use, private settings, and swimming pools. The system is more cost-effective than similar alternatives, as its design allows for greater spacing, reducing the number of clamps needed per meter of railing, as well as the number of anchors and installation time required.
- GlassFit CC-801. The GlassFit CC-801 system offers excellent rigidity and strength relative to its size, allowing spans of up to 1300 mm. It is a compact, cost-effective product suitable for private-use projects.
What does powder coating a railing system involve?
Powder coating is a surface treatment applied through the electrostatic spraying of powder paint, which is then fused to the material in a curing oven. Powder coating offers a wide range of colors and a highly uniform finish, making it the preferred option for those seeking aesthetic customization and color matching for their project.
Advantages of powder coating in railing systems
- Maximum customization. At Comenza, we offer a wide range of RAL colors, allowing the railing system to be adapted to the visual identity of each project.
- Guaranteed quality. Comenza’s powder coating process is carried out under Qualicoat Seaside standards, ensuring color durability, excellent adhesion to the profile, and high resistance to external agents.
- Clean and uniform aesthetics. Powder coating creates a smooth, even surface with no marks or color inconsistencies—ideal for projects where the finish is a key element.
