Comenza Services: technical processes applied to real-world projects

At Comenza, developing a railing system is only part of what we do. One of our Comenza Services is our Technical Office, a team of specialists responsible for analysing and designing specific solutions when a project’s requirements go beyond standard configurations.

Their work ensures that key technical decisions are supported by an analysis tailored to each project. Structural calculations, wind loads, anchoring solutions and regulatory requirements are among the areas covered by the Technical Office, transforming a product into a solution adapted to actual on-site conditions.

What are the technical processes involved in Comenza Services?

Un proceso técnico parte de las particularidades de cada proyecto para determinar cómo debe comportarse e integrarse el sistema de barandillas. Cuando es necesario, nuestra Oficina TéThe Technical Office can provide support in areas such as:

  • Structural calculations, including simulations using the Finite Element Method (FEM).
  • Wind load calculations, taking into account the actual exposure conditions of the site and project.
  • Calculation and verification of anchors in concrete or steel structures.
  • Determination of anchoring forces in timber structures.
  • Analysis of country-specific regulations and recommendations for technically viable systems.

This analysis makes it possible to design and dimension the solution according to the specific conditions of each project, while providing technical documentation to support the decisions made.

The aim is to ensure structural safety and technical reliability, avoiding both over-engineered solutions and configurations that fail to meet the project's actual requirements.

How Can I Access This Service?

You can get in touch with our team through our Online Technical Support section. Get answers to construction-related questions, clarify regulatory requirements or review your railing calculations in real time. Book a 30-minute online consultation with a specialist architect from our Technical Office.

What can you expect from the online technical consultation?

- Drawing review: Identification of the most suitable and efficient system for each project, including an assessment of slab-edge details, floor finishes and ventilated façade junctions.

- Preliminary structural and wind load calculations: Initial verification of the system in accordance with the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE DB SE-AE) or applicable international standards.

- Anchor selection and compatibility: Technical advice on the most appropriate fixing solution for your supporting structure.

- Regulatory compliance: Identification of the requirements set out in CTE DB SUA-1 to support the preparation of project documentation.

The value of Comenza services in real-world projects

The best way to understand the value of these technical processes is to see how they are applied to projects with very different requirements. In some cases, the challenge lies in determining how the railing will be anchored to the structure; in others, specific calculations are needed to verify the structural performance of a particular configuration.

The projects carried out in Dénia and at the New Passenger Building of Santiago de Compostela–Daniel Castelao Station are two examples of how the Technical Office tailors its approach to the specific requirements of each project.

Technical Process: residential project in Dénia

In this residential development in Dénia, approximately 500 metres of the Minimal Post MT-200 system were installed. The scale of the project and the building’s construction characteristics required a detailed assessment of how the system should be integrated into the structure.

The Technical Office analysed several project-specific factors, including:

  • The type of supporting structure.
  • The floor slab composition.
  • The positioning of the railings.
  • Wind exposure.
  • The expected loads.

Based on this analysis, a project-specific anchoring solution tailored to the actual site conditions was developed. This involved defining the construction details and calculating the required fixing system to ensure proper load transfer between the railing and the building structure.obra, definiendo los detalles constructivos y calculando el sistema de fijación necesario para garantizar una correcta transmisión de esfuerzos entre la barandilla y la estructura del edificio.

Technical Process: new passenger building at Santiago de Compostela–Daniel Castelao Station

The Santiago station project presented a different technical challenge. In certain areas of the infrastructure, a taller railing configuration was required to protect sensitive areas, making a more detailed assessment of its structural performance necessary.

For this application, the Technical Office was involved in validating a GlassFit SV-1703 configuration reaching almost two metres in height, using a Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation.

This type of analysis makes it possible to assess aspects such as:

  • System deflections.
  • Stresses generated in the different components.
  • Load transfer to the fixing elements.
  • The overall structural response of a specific configuration under the expected loads.

The simulation made it possible to verify the structural performance of the proposed solution and provide the necessary technical validation for an application with requirements exceeding those of a conventional installation.onal. Este proyecto muestra cómo el cálculo estructural y la simulación MEF pueden utilizarse para validar configuraciones específicas cuando las condiciones del proyecto lo requieren.
