Side-mounted glass railing system for high loads
The Comenza GlassFit SV-1802 Side system is a profile-based glass railing solution made of aluminium and designed for side mounting in projects with high structural requirements. Its configuration allows the railing to be fixed to the outer edge of the floor slab, leaving the upper surface of the slab unobstructed and providing a cleaner view from inside the building.
Developed for public-use applications and crowd-load areas, the SV-1802 is also particularly suitable for projects exposed to high wind loads, such as high-rise buildings, rooftops, observation decks and elevated terraces. Its compatibility with thick glass, different anchoring systems, and drainage and lighting solutions allows the system to be adapted to highly demanding architectural projects.
01. SIDE-MOUNTED DESIGN FOR AN UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW
The side-mounted configuration of the SV-1802 allows the profile to be positioned on the outer edge of the floor slab, reducing its visual presence from the interior and giving greater prominence to the glass. This configuration enhances visual continuity and provides a clean, refined aesthetic. In addition, the system features finishing solutions that conceal the fixing points and achieve more uniform integration of the profile into the façade.
02. TESTED SAFETY FOR PUBLIC-USE AND CROWD-LOAD AREAS
The GlassFit SV-1802 system has been developed to meet the requirements of spaces subject to high loads. It complies with CTE requirements for public-use areas, with a characteristic load of 1.6 kN/m, and for crowd-load areas, with 3 kN/m. Applying a partial safety factor of 1.5, the system’s resistance is verified against loads of 2.4 and 4.5 kN/m, respectively. In addition, it is included in the current Avis Technique for use in France.
03. VERSATILE INSTALLATION WITH FIVE ANCHORS PER LINEAR METRE
The SV-1802 allows the use of chemical or mechanical anchors depending on the substrate, loads and specific project conditions. Its configuration incorporates five fixing points per linear metre, providing an appropriate balance between resistance, rigidity and installation efficiency. The PL-180 glazing kit facilitates the positioning and securing of the glass in the profile, while the PM-01 connecting pin helps maintain continuity and alignment between consecutive profile sections.

01. NO LOSS OF USABLE SURFACE AREA
By being fixed to the outer edge of the floor slab, the SV-1802 does not occupy the upper surface of the slab, allowing the available space to be used right up to the edge of the enclosure. This feature is particularly advantageous on balconies, terraces, rooftops and circulation areas where maximizing every square metre of usable space is essential. Side mounting also facilitates more discreet integration of the profile into the overall architectural design.
02. COMPATIBLE WITH THICK GLASS
The GlassFit SV-1802 system accommodates glass configurations ranging from 20.38 to 31.52 mm in thickness, depending on the glazing kit and the technical requirements of the project. This compatibility makes it possible to select high-performance glass compositions for applications subject to high loads or demanding wind conditions. The configuration covered by the Avis Technique uses 12+12 laminated tempered glass with a 1.52 mm SentryGlas interlayer.
03. COMPATIBILITY WITH LED LIGHTING
The SV-1802 allows LED lighting to be integrated into the profile to illuminate the glass from below. This solution expands the design possibilities of the railing and makes it possible to incorporate ambient lighting, signage or solutions that enhance visibility in the surrounding area. Integrating lighting directly into the system provides a more exclusive finish and enhances the architectural presence of the railing without compromising its safety performance.
04. INTERNAL DRAINAGE TO EVACUATE ACCUMULATED WATER
The profile incorporates an internal drainage system that facilitates the evacuation of water that may enter or accumulate inside it. Drainage is provided through 8 mm openings positioned every 500 mm, providing a drainage area of 100.5 mm² per metre. This solution is particularly relevant for outdoor installations, where it helps prevent water accumulation and ensures the proper performance of the overall system.
05. WIDE RANGE OF RAL POWDER-COATED FINISHES
The GlassFit SV-1802 system offers the option of powder coating the profile in a wide range of RAL colours available in the GlassFit catalogue. This option allows the railing to be adapted to the visual identity and aesthetic requirements of each project, facilitating its integration with the façade and other architectural elements. Comenza’s powder-coating process is carried out in accordance with Qualicoat Seaside standards.
Safety and regulations
COMENZA railing systems are tested in accordance with Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE) requirements to ensure end-user safety, verifying that they pass static and dynamic load tests. The resistance verification method with variable action established by the CTE is applied, using a partial safety factor of 1.5. This is an essential requirement to ensure maximum safety and regulatory compliance for a railing system.
