Comenza railings redefine the Bayonne Media Library
The Bayonne Media Library is an iconic cultural centre that has been completely renovated and expanded following three years of construction work. This project has redefined its relationship with the city, creating a more open and light-filled building designed to adapt to the evolving cultural and digital needs of its users.
The project has doubled the public areas of the Bayonne Media Library from 1,200 m² to 2,400 m², incorporating new reading spaces, individual and group study areas, consultation rooms, and accessible outdoor terraces. With more than 400 reading seats and an expanded collection, the centre has established itself as a contemporary, welcoming space that is fully integrated into the cultural life of the French city.
System installed at the Bayonne Media Library
For this project, Comenza contributed to the installation of glass railings that blend naturally into the interior architecture of the new media library. The choice of the GlassFit SV-1401 profile, combined with 10.10.4 HST laminated tempered glass with polished edges, responds to the need for a transparent and elegant solution that complements the building’s open-plan design. The SV-1401 is a top-mounted system that allows the profile to be fixed to the top of the floor slab, providing a clean and optimized installation that puts the glass at the forefront. Its minimalist design creates a continuous, lightweight aesthetic, ideal for spaces where clarity and visual openness are integral to the architectural language.
This configuration allows light to flow freely without visual barriers and maintains a seamless visual connection between the different levels, enhancing the user experience in reading, study, and circulation areas. Thanks to its discreet design and the purity of the glass, the system blends naturally into the architecture of the Media Library, reinforcing the sense of spaciousness that defines the project.
In this project, the installation carried out by Glass Partners Solutions ensured the precise integration of the system and an aesthetic fully aligned with the building’s modern character. The result is a solution that brings clarity, harmony, and a sense of continuity, intuitively connecting the different spaces.
In addition, as with all our profile systems, Comenza offers the option to customize the finish with powder coating in a wide range of RAL colours, allowing the solution to be tailored to the aesthetic requirements of each project. The full range of available colours can be found in our GlassFit catalogue.

Regulatory compliance in the Bayonne Media Library project
The GlassFit SV-1401 system has been tested to ensure compliance with international standards, including those applicable in France. The system holds an Avis Technique, which validates the reliability and safety of construction products in France. This assessment is managed by the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) and approved and published by the CCFAT (Commission Chargée de Formuler des Avis Techniques).
Regarding Spanish regulations, the GlassFit SV-1401 system also complies with the requirements of the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE) for private-use (0.8 kN/m) and public-use (1.6 kN/m) categories. Compliance has been verified through physical testing in accordance with the UNE 85-238 standard for railings, using the strength verification method with a variable action and applying a partial safety factor of 1.5. Strength verification is an essential requirement to ensure the safety and regulatory compliance of a railing system.
