1,500 metres of outdoor railings bring safety and design to the new Torre Caleido shopping area
Standing 181 metres tall, Caleido Tower, inaugurated in 2020, has quickly become one of Madrid’s most iconic and prominent buildings thanks to its cutting-edge design and privileged location in the Chamartín district. This fifth tower joins its four neighbouring towers, the tallest in Madrid, in the renowned Cuatro Torres Business Area (CTBA), located at the northern end of Paseo de la Castellana.
In addition to its tourist appeal, Caleido Tower is undoubtedly the most publicly accessible building in the area, standing out as the epicentre of a new shopping and leisure destination spanning more than 15,000 square metres across four floors. The redevelopment was carried out by Espacio Caleido, in collaboration with the architectural firm Fenwick Iribarren.
Details of the outdoor railing installation at Caleido Tower
Nearly 1,500 linear metres of Comenza outdoor railings, specifically the GlassFit SV-1401 and SV-1404 systems, were selected to provide design and safety to the shopping and leisure area of Caleido Tower.
The GlassFit SV-1401 is a top-mounted profile system for glass railings with internal drainage, allowing quick and convenient installation from inside the structure thanks to the LEVEL IN levelling device. The GlassFit SV-1404 is a side-mounted system with similar drainage and levelling features to the SV-1401, while also accommodating thicker glass.
As with the entire Comenza profile range, the SV-1401 and SV-1404 systems offer the option to customize the finish with powder coating in a wide range of RAL colours, allowing the solution to be adapted to the aesthetic requirements of each project. The full range of available colours can be found in our GlassFit catalogue.

Regulatory compliance for outdoor railings
Both the GlassFit SV-1401 and SV-1404 systems comply with the requirements of the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE) for private-use (0.8 kN/m) and public-use (1.6 kN/m) categories. Compliance has been verified through physical testing in accordance with the UNE 85-238 standard for railings, using the strength verification method with a variable action and applying a partial safety factor of 1.5.
In addition, the systems have been tested to ensure compliance with international regulations in countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and France. In France, they have been certified by the CSTB, validating the reliability and safety of the products within the construction sector.
Mark Fenwick, the architect responsible for the design of Caleido Tower, told GQ magazine: “The existing group of four towers creates a very aggressive, very inhuman environment. For this reason, Caleido aims to humanize its surroundings and create spaces on an urban scale at its base.”
In this way, the tower and its commercial area transform the surrounding area into an innovative, artistic and sustainable space that adapts to the needs of residents and visitors while combining design with the latest technology. The area around Caleido Tower offers a green, modern environment enriched with urban art through initiatives such as Urvanity Projects, featuring works by some of today’s leading national and international artists.
