Competition, sport and interaction without barriers
On the central coast of Peru, in the area once known by its indigenous inhabitants as Limaq, now Lima, lies the district of San Borja, home to the former 18 Túpac Amaru Zonal Park, which has been transformed into La Videna. Covering an extensive area of 21.5 hectares, the complex is surrounded by major transport infrastructure and important facilities in the capital, such as the Banco de la Nación and the National Library.
Since the 1980s, this site has accommodated various public uses before becoming today’s National Sports Village and serving as one of the venues for the 18th Pan American and Parapan American Games in 2019. The project represented a major design and construction challenge for Dessin Technisch, the studio of Federico Dunkelberg and Sophie Le Bienvenu, responsible for the design and construction of one of the most modern public sports complexes on the continent in just 19 months.
More about La Videna
Following this major undertaking, the city has gained an important legacy of new, high-quality public sports infrastructure, facilities that promote and support the development of sport, and spaces for social interaction in a city as unequal as Lima. La Videna is a clear example of this. To meet the requirements of the entire complex, different Comenza railing solutions were selected for each venue —the Velodrome, Aquatic Centre and Athletics Stadium.
In all of them, three key factors had to be combined: user safety, efficient installation, and visual transparency, allowing spectators to fully enjoy live sporting events while avoiding opaque elements or complex connections that could obstruct views of the competitions or make subsequent maintenance more difficult.
La Videna Indoor Velodrome
Following these guidelines, the GlassFit SV-1401 Top system was integrated into the complex geometry of the indoor velodrome. This model features a lower anodized aluminium profile with a silver-grey finish, complemented in this case by a round stainless steel handrail to define the track’s pelouse, as well as its access points and circulation areas on the lower level. This solution allows team staff and officials to maintain an optimal, uninterrupted view of each event.
The same system is installed along the upper access ring, grandstands and accessible seating areas, finished with a slim and elegant U-shaped top trim, also in anodized aluminium. Between these areas, a glass panel anchored to the lower parapet was selected to protect the track perimeter, likewise finished with a round stainless steel handrail. This solution provides material consistency and visual coherence throughout the entire sports venue.


La Videna Aquatic Centre
At the Aquatic Centre, with a capacity of 4,000 spectators, the same certified safety system, GlassFit SV-1401 Top, was selected with two different finishes. In the upper corridors providing access to the stands and circulation areas, the system is finished with a rectangular stainless steel top profile, while no top profile is used in the grandstand and accessible seating areas. In the lower stands, at pool level, the same solution is used with side mounting to the lower concrete parapet and without a top profile. This configuration allows spectators to enjoy the events up close, with unobstructed views and a high level of safety.


Athletics Stadium
Following the same criteria of technical performance and ease of installation, the GlassFit SV-1401 Top system was selected for the La Videna Athletics Stadium, both in the grandstands and upper seating areas. At track level, modular safety glass panels with side mounting to the perimeter wall were used, secured with round CC-775 adapters. This solution minimizes the visual presence of the railing and allows spectators to enjoy the athletics events with unobstructed views.
