500 metres of Comenza railings protect the new T4 bus station in Madrid
Since its opening in 2006, Terminal 4 (T4) at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport has become an architectural and functional landmark within the European airport landscape. T4 stands out for its innovative undulating roof design, its use of natural light, and its commitment to sustainability. Comprising the main terminal and its T4S satellite building, the complex has played a key role in modernizing the airport, consolidating its position as one of the main air transport hubs connecting Europe and Latin America.
In 2022, as part of Madrid’s transport infrastructure improvement plan, the T4 bus station was refurbished. Located in the northern section of the P4 public car park, this space was designed to improve the airport’s ground transport connections and enhance the passenger experience, facilitating access to various intercity transport services and strengthening the airport’s intermodal connections with the rest of the city and other provinces.
Comenza railings installed
More than 500 linear metres of Comenza railing systems, specifically the GlassFit SV-1401 system, have been installed at the T4 bus station of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, a key space within the capital’s airport infrastructure. The GlassFit SV-1401 system was selected for this project thanks to its ability to ensure maximum safety without compromising a modern, transparent aesthetic. It is a top-mounted profile system for glass railings, featuring internal drainage and designed for fast and precise installation from inside the structure thanks to the LEVEL IN levelling system. The system can be powder-coated in a wide range of colours according to the project requirements. Its versatility and ease of installation have helped optimize installation times while ensuring an impeccable finish in an environment where every detail matters.
Regulatory compliance
The GlassFit SV-1401 system complies with the requirements of the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE) for private-use (0.8 kN/m) and public-use (1.6 kN/m) categories, verified through physical testing in accordance with the UNE 85-238 standard for railings and using the strength verification method with a variable action, applying a partial safety factor of 1.5. Strength verification is an essential requirement to ensure the safety and regulatory compliance of a railing system.
The GlassFit SV-1401 system has also been tested to ensure compliance with international regulations in countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and France. In France, it has been certified by the CSTB, which validates the reliability and safety of construction products.
