Comenza brings safety to the railings of Intempo, Europe’s tallest residential skyscraper

Located opposite Poniente Beach, Intempo Residential Sky Resort redefines the Benidorm skyline, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean coast from its 200-metre-high towers. As the tallest residential complex in Europe, the building has become a new architectural landmark on the Costa Blanca, both for its height and its contemporary Art Deco design.

The complex consists of two twin towers housing residences and communal facilities, with the upper floors connected by a central cone-shaped or diamond structure. Given the scale of the project, high-performance railing solutions were required to ensure adequate resistance to horizontal loads and wind action.

Selection of railing systems for Intempo Tower

The railing system selected for installation on the terraces of the central diamond is the GlassFit SV-1802 Side. This glass railing profile system achieves a horizontal load value of 4.5 kN/m in the CTE-SE strength verification, resulting from multiplying the horizontal load of 3 kN/m by the partial safety factor of 1.5 for variable loads.

In addition, this railing system allows the use of thick, high-strength glass, making it suitable for areas subject to large crowds and high wind loads. Another key feature is the railing anchoring system, which is installed on the outer edge of the floor slab to maximize usable space by taking advantage of the entire surface area up to the edge of the slab.

The GlassFit SV-1701 Top system has been installed at the building entrances. This top-mounted glass railing profile system is characterized by its strength and light weight, helping to reduce installation times by allowing the use of self-tapping screws, as well as chemical or mechanical anchors.

Intempo technical process

Comenza’s technical department collaborated in the execution of the project by providing technical support through FEM simulations, assessing the mechanical behaviour of the railing system and calculating the anchors required for load transfer.

Likewise, the company’s technical team carried out the preliminary sizing of the metal plate specifically designed to secure the railing system, verifying wind loads at a height of more than 50 storeys, with pressure values of 3.5 kN/m² and a horizontal load of 1.6 kN/m.

The railings were installed by Singular Glass, which highlights that the choice of Comenza systems was driven by the safety provided by the SV-1802 system for installing SentryGlas safety glass at a height of more than 50 storeys.
